hivein for Joomla

Ask about articles, categories, menu items and modules using Joomla's own admin vocabulary.

An API token generated by the User - Joomla API Token plugin and checked by the API Authentication - Web Services Joomla Token plugin, sent as an X-Joomla-Token header to /api/index.php/v1.

What it does

What the Joomla connector will do.

Take stock of articles

Read articles with their state, access level, category, author and hits, so unpublished, archived and trashed items are told apart rather than lumped together.

Map the category tree

Read the nested category hierarchy with each category's access level and published state, and find categories that hold no published articles.

Follow menus to their targets

Read site menus and their items, including item type, link and ordering, and match each item back to the article or category it points at.

See where modules are placed

Read site modules with their position, published state and the menu items each one is assigned to, so it is clear which pages a module actually appears on.

Review users and groups

Read user accounts with their group membership, block state and last visit date, and read the view access levels to see what those groups can reach.

What it knows

It will read your Joomla data model, not a generic one.

The schema is read first, so a question that spans two of these is one question, not two lookups.

What it will answer
  • “Which articles are unpublished but still linked from a site menu item?”

  • “List the modules in the sidebar-right position and which menu items they show on”

  • “Which categories have no published articles?”

  • “How many articles has each author published this year, broken down by category?”

FAQ

Joomla questions.

Which Joomla versions have a web services API?

The core Web Services API arrived in Joomla 4 and continues in Joomla 5. Joomla 3 has no equivalent in core, so a site on 3.x would need upgrading before it can be connected.

How is the connection authorised?

You enable the two core token plugins and generate a token on a Joomla user account, then hivein will send that token on every request. The user's ACL decides what the token can reach.

Are third-party components included?

Only extensions that ship their own web services plugin expose routes under /api. Core content, users, menus and modules are covered; a component such as a third-party shop is not, unless it publishes its own API.
